Davis-Standard Extruder, 1.5" 24:1 L/D, 2017 yr.
This extruder saw moderate development use, 8 hours/day 5 days/week 25 weeks/year for 3 years.
The program was discontinued, and there has been no run time since 2000.
It is a complete system. Extruder, melt pump gearmotor, electrical panel, HMI, and several downstream heat zones.
The extruder power is 480 V, 3 phase, 119 FLA. The downstream zones are 240V single phase, protected by GFCI breakers. I will include the 480V 3 phase to 240V single phase transformer. The downstream zone detail is shown in picture one below. All of the heaters are individually wired to the 5 pin Harting plugs/receptacles. This allows quick/safe replacement of a failed heater while the extrusion system remains running.
The extruder centerline is about 44". However, because it is on casters, tracks, and has levelers, the CL can be adjusted down about 3", and adjusted up as much as wanted.
Water cooled material feed section.
The extruder is a 4 zone unit. Heat/cool. Air cooled.
The gearbox has 17.42 ratio, so the maximum standard screw speed is 100 rpm.
The control system is the Davis-Standard eVUE PLC-based control system. This provides excellent temperature and speed/pressure control.
It also has advanced control, communication, trending, etc., capabilities.
The extruder motor is Marathon brand, 15 HP, 1750 std rpm, variable speed. Allen Bradley Powerflex 753 drive in the control panel.
The melt pump motor is Marathon brand, 5 HP. Allen Bradley Powerflex 753 drive in the control panel.
Overhead melt pump support with drive shaft and guard.
Mahr 2 outlet melt pump.
Nordson EM-15 screen changer.
Drawer magnet box at the feed section.
Two extruder screws. A barrier type, and a standard single flighted type. Both have Maddock mixers.
There is one pressure control zone (melt pump inlet pressure), with 5 pressure monitor points. We typically use Dynisco pressure transducers.
The extruder is on casters. One side V casters. One side flat casters.
The melt pump gearmotor is on a machine direction adjustable slide. This allows for different melt tooling lengths and configurations.
RETECH Flexible Draw Stand, 2016 yr, godet + (4) pairs of godets + godet. Modified from original design with 4 pairs of heated godets to 6 pairs of heated godets. Also relocated 1st godet contact point vertically up and closer to the spinneret for assistance with low melt strength. Modification as follows:
Godet 1 was moved up and has 1 Godet and 1 air bearing.
A lower pair of Godets was installed.
The center section of 4 Godet pairs remained the same.
The last section (section above the winder), was changed to replace the air bearing with a Godet.
(2) OERLIKON BARMAG WinTens Winders, 2017 yr, 94mm chuck, up to 2000 mpm.
(1) Model 602, can run 1 or 2 ends up.
(1) Model 904, can run 2 or 4 ends up.
